Day 6 - Galway City

This morning we heard the rain pounding on the bedroom window so we rolled over and got some extra sleep. We finally got up and took some time to regroup on this dismal day. The weather forecast had it improving in the afternoon. We noticed a cafe across the street so we decided to make a dash there for a mid-morning breakfast. It was called the Jungle Cafe and it really looked like a jungle inside. The food and coffee were great and it got us fortified for the day.

After breakfast, it still was raining off and on so we decided it was time to make use of the washing/drying machine which is always a challenge in Europe. I managed to download a user's manual and we were able to successfully get one load washed but it took forever to dry.

In the afternoon we struck out on a self guided walking tour of the downtown and harbour area. It was pretty active for a Tuesday.

I'm beginning to see that Ireland has a relatively high density of pubs and eating establishments in the main cities.

The waterfront was not that busy, at least where we walked.

From there we went to have a look at Galway Cathedral which is large but being built in the 1960's, is nowhere near as opulent as others built in the previous centuries.

After our walk around town, we returned to the area of our apartment and stopped in at a local pub for a pint and a wine.

Street view of our apartment building.

We want to get an early start tomorrow so I popped over to Marks and Spencer that is right next door to get some breakfast food and snacks. Sort of weird getting food in a department store. Enter store, walk down central aisle, turn right at the push-up bras and there you are at the grocery section!

For supper, we wandered a couple of blocks and picked a pub with live traditional music for some traditional Irish food and drink.

Day 15 - Dublin Day 2

We were a little tired after all of the city tours we have been doing so we tried to take it a bit easier today and kept it to 12,000 steps...
