Day 4 - The Ring of Kerry

Today's adventure was a driving tour of The Ring of Kerry. This is a famous circuit that takes you around the Iveragh Peninsula winding past pretty villages, pristine beaches, craggy mountains and sparkling loughs. It starts and finishes in Killarney where we are staying in a B&B. It's a narrow twisty two lane road with no shoulders and unforgiving rock walls at the edge of the pavement. It is a popular route for bus tours which makes for more excitement when you meet up with a full size tour bus. Fortunately, the busses do the circuit counter-clockwise so the advice was to go clockwise in a vehicle so you never have to pass one. I did a google map of the route below.

We made many photo stops along the way starting at Torc Waterfalls. They are about 80 ft high in a lush forest.

After the short hike to the falls, the overcast started to break up a bit leading to some sunshine and temperature in the low 20's and we could start to enjoy the stunning scenery.

The weather was nice when we were at Derrynane Beach although I think you would have to be brave to get in the North Atlantic water.

We hadn't travelled 10 km from the beach when it clouded over and the temperature dropped below 15 with winds gusting 35 kts. Still, some great views from the viewpoint pullouts along the way.

As we were nearing Killarney on our return we passed a sign for what I thought was a Seniors Residence. Please, never put me in one called "The Final Furlong". Later I looked it up and found out it was for horses.

We walked downtown for supper again and found a nice restaurant in a former department store. We ordered some interesting local small plates for a light supper and a pint/wine.

When we got back to the B&B, there had to be over 100 ravens on the roof!

We are continuing on the road again tomorrow for a two day stay in Galway.

Day 15 - Dublin Day 2

We were a little tired after all of the city tours we have been doing so we tried to take it a bit easier today and kept it to 12,000 steps...
