We continued our clockwise lap of Ireland today travelling north from Killarney to the Cliffs of Moher. This was about a 3 hour drive on a combination of normal and narrower secondary roads as we neared the western coast. The weather was cooler today and overcast with gusty winds. There were a few sprinkles of rain while driving there.
The cliffs are a popular attraction for the bus tour crowd but if you venture beyond the close to the parking lot viewing platforms, you can get some unique views of the massive 214 metre sandstone cliffs and sea stacks.
We spent a couple hours there walking the cliffside trails, encountering some local cattle then heading along on the seaside drive to Galway.
Driving along the coast, we passed through an area called The Burren where an unusual rock scape replaced the lush green fields and stacked rock walls.
We arrived in Galway after about 5 hours of driving today and I was definitely tired from concentrating on holding position in the narrow lanes while dodging tour busses and large farm equipment.
We got checked into our downtown apartment that is very nice, right in the heart of the city with a multitude of restaurants within a few blocks. We picked Blake's Corner Bar and Brassier. A nice upscale pub and we had an enjoyable meal and I had my first pint of Guinness on the island!
